“Bridging the Border- Exploring the Changing Role of the Disability Provider”
The MN/WI AHEAD joint spring conference entitled “Bridging the Border- Exploring the Changing Role of the Disability Provider” was held at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, WI on May 19th and 20th.
A special thanks to Kara James and the University of Wisconsin-Stout who hosted this event. Kara’s attention to detail and coordination was so much appreciated by everyone.
Also, many thanks to our conference committee comprised of Sandy Hall, Sheila Fox Wassink, Mary Thole, Lilly O’Connoll and Carlie Gebauer. Their countless hours of work, preparation and planning were greatly appreciated. Great work guys!
We had a total attendance of 80 with much fun, education and collaboration experienced by all. The first day began with a preconference talk by Jean Ashmore, President of AHEAD who gave an update on what is going with our national organization. This was followed by a keynote by Dr. Therese Willkomm, Associate Professor from the University of New Hampshire who spoke on “Assistive Technology and Universal Design in Higher Education”. After lunch we had two series of breakout sessions. The day was capped off with a reception held at The Country Inn and Suites attended by over 50 attendees.
The next morning our keynote was Molly Siriois from the University of Oregon who spoke through-out the day on her topic of “When Destiny Calls…or Emails: The Future of the Disability Services Professional”.
